Dear Cucamonga School District Families,
As we observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, January 20th, we take time to reflect on the profound impact Dr. King had on our country and the world. His commitment to racial equality, justice, and nonviolence continues to inspire us, and his work aligns deeply with the values we strive to instill in our students through the District's Portrait of a Graduate.
Dr. King’s leadership was rooted in principles that echo our district’s vision for developing well-rounded, thoughtful, and compassionate students:
-
Empathy: Dr. King listened with an open mind and demonstrated a deep understanding of others’ perspectives and needs. His ability to empathize with those suffering under injustice fueled his work toward equality and peace.
-
Social and Cross-Cultural Skills: Dr. King worked tirelessly to bring people together from diverse backgrounds, promoting unity, respect, and understanding. His advocacy for racial equality shows the importance of appreciating and celebrating our differences.
-
Creativity and Innovation: Dr. King used innovative, nonviolent approaches to problem-solving, demonstrating creativity in how he inspired change and challenged injustices. His ability to generate diverse ideas for social change exemplifies how creativity can be a powerful force for good.
-
Critical Thinking and Problem Solving: Dr. King carefully evaluated the challenges of his time, making thoughtful decisions that helped drive the civil rights movement. His leadership provides a model for how critical thinking and thoughtful problem solving can create positive, lasting impact.
-
Initiative and Self-Direction: Dr. King was a self-driven leader who set clear goals and worked tirelessly to achieve them. His ability to persevere in the face of obstacles serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of personal initiative and a growth mindset.
-
Resilience: Throughout his life, Dr. King faced immense challenges and adversity, yet he remained committed to his mission of justice. His resilience teaches us the value of continuing to work toward our goals, even when faced with difficult tasks and setbacks.
-
Information, Communication, and Technology Literacy: Dr. King’s ability to communicate his ideas clearly and powerfully, both through speeches and writings, shows us how important it is to be able to use information and technology effectively to inspire and inform others.
As we honor Dr. King’s legacy, let’s encourage our children to reflect on how these values can shape not only their educational journeys but also their roles as compassionate, creative, and engaged citizens in our world.
Wishing you all a meaningful and reflective holiday weekend!
Sincerely, Michael Chaix, Ed.D. Superintendent

SCHOOL SPOTLIGHT |
Rancho Cucamonga Middle School By Principal Mr. Bobby Collins
As we begin the 2nd semester here at RCMS, we have an opportunity to celebrate the great work and progress that has been done over the past sixteen weeks of school. First Semester was an exciting and challenging time for our students, and many of them overcame great obstacles and were able to surpass all expectations. This week, we were able to celebrate our students’ academic success. Our Honor Roll Assembly recognized students who earned a 3.5-3.99 GPA (Lion’s Honor Roll), as well as students who earned straight A's and got a 4.0 GPA (Principal’s Honor Roll). We know the kind of determination that it takes to be successful here at RCMS, and we congratulate and thank our students and families for prioritizing academic excellence.
RCMS also recognizes that student belonging, a positive culture, and a little friendly competition is another way that RCMS students excel. Here at RCMS, our students are broken up into four ‘houses’ (think something similar to Harry Potter, but without any sorcery or fancy robes). These houses are made up of both students and staff members and compete against each other during our rallies for house points. Students can also earn points for their houses by wearing their spirit gear on Fridays or participating in our school-wise dress-up spirit days. While it was a close race, I want to congratulate the Luani House for their 1st Semester Win! They will be enjoying a celebratory house party in the weeks to come.
