SUPERINTENDENT'S WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
3/20/2026

Dear CSD Families,

This week, we are proud to celebrate the success of our students and the strong community that supports them.

We are excited to share that seven of our students participated in the SBCSS SIM Science and Engineering Fair (SIMSEF) 2026, demonstrating impressive dedication and innovation. We are especially proud that two students from THE ONTARIO CENTER SCHOOL earned Bronze Medals for their outstanding projects, an incredible achievement!

This accomplishment reflects not only our students’ hard work and curiosity, but also the guidance of our dedicated staff. Special thanks to Mrs. Fierro, Mrs. Barrera (TOCS), and Mrs. Alvarez (CES) for their mentorship and commitment to student success.

We also want to acknowledge the incredible dedication of our entire school community. While our teachers are at the forefront of instruction, it truly takes a team to support each child. Our office staff, custodial and maintenance teams, support personnel, and site and district administrators all work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure our schools are safe, welcoming, and conducive to learning.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support.

Take care,

Michael Chaix, Ed.D.
Superintendent

Reflecting on Women’s History Month at CES

During the month of March, Cubs proudly embraced a month of learning, celebrating, and honoring the remarkable achievements of women throughout history. Women’s History Month provided our students with meaningful opportunities to explore stories of leadership, resilience, creativity, and courage—while also inspiring them to see how their own voices and actions matter.

Classroom Learning & Discussions
Throughout the month, teachers incorporated lessons highlighting influential women in science, civil rights, sports, the arts, and more. Students explored the lasting impact of these leaders and engaged in thoughtful conversations about equity, determination, and the importance of representation.

Weekly Read-Alouds with Dr. Tremayne
Each week, I shared empowering picture books that spotlighted women who changed the world in big and small ways. Students were introduced to diverse voices—from star athletes to astronauts and responded with questions, reflections, and excitement about how they, too, can lead with purpose.

Book Donations to Classrooms
To continue these important conversations beyond March, each class received a copy of Leaf Detective—an inspiring true story about scientist Margret Lower who explored the canopies of the rainforest and paved the way for future women in STEM. This book is now a source of ongoing encouragement and empowerment in each classroom library.

Recess Craft Spotlight: Resilience

Our Portrait of a Graduate recess event was held this past week. Parent volunteers invited students to join in activities that built resiliency. Students mapped out strategies to bound back, honored activities they’re learning but haven’t mastered yet, and created a vibrant, communal mural of Malala, a women who shows much resilience in her work to fight for educational rights for all.

Women’s History Month may be ending, but our commitment to uplifting diverse voices continues all year. Thank you for supporting these important conversations at home and helping us raise the next generation of inclusive, informed, and empowered leaders.
